I would like to say that this year has got off to a good start – but I would be telling big lies if I did.
Jack is fine, his weight loss seems to have stabled out a bit, although his epilepsy continues to be a problem.
However, amongst the personal difficulties we are going through now, in the last couple of weeks two friends of ours have sadly passed away. One, Doug, was in his 90′s, and in poor health. We had been friends with him and his late wife Freda for a few years, and to find ourselves in the position of coming to terms with his death, I think we could compare it to the death of a much-loved Grandparent. Doug was a gentleman is every sense of the word. Kind, generous, and an inspiration. We loved him very much and will miss him terribly.
The second death is the mother of one of Matthews friends. Her name was Rachel and she had fought breast cancer since 2003. She was generous with her time, and helped me out on a couple of occasions by picking Matthew up for birthday parties when Jack was ill. Rachel was not the sort of woman to moan about her predicament, and I firmly believe that she really lived her last years to the fullest. Rachel was 37.
In honour of both of my friends I would like to direct you to three charities that both Doug’s Family and Rachel’s Family have asked for donations for in memory of their passing.
May they both Rest In Peace.
